The movie was inspired by the Coen brothers' film of exactly the same title. Tolman was praised for her performance in the character of Minnesota Police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair said that Tolman had "calmly assuredly stolen the entire show". Tolman was awarded the Critics' Choice Television Award for her performance in the category Best Supporting Actress in the category of Movies/Miniseries. Additionally she was nominated in the category of Best Actress were received at the Emmy Awards as well as the Golden Globes. The same year, it was revealed that Tolman is scheduled to make a guest appearance on The Mindy project as Abby Berman who is a romance writer. As of 2015, Tolman had a supporting role in Michael Dougherty's comedy-horror film Krampus. Tolman declined several support roles, like the ones played by mothers, wifes and friends, following her first appearance in Fargo. Tolman wanted a new character. Tolman was a part of ABC's Downward Dog based off the Animal Media Group webseries. The series ended in the middle of a year. Tolman was a part of the ABC drama show Emergence, which was launched on September 24, 2019 it was cancelled after a single season, on May 21 in 2020.
